A sauna experience by the water
Grebo Bastubåt (the Grebo Sauna Boat) is located on Lake Ärlången in Grebo, between Linköping and Åtvidaberg. It’s a popular local spot where people come to relax, enjoy the sauna, and take a dip in the lake.
They’ve hosted everything from bachelor parties and birthdays to quiet winter evenings and even a proposal.
As one visitor said, “It feels like a vacation at home.”
How Rentalbuddy made it self-service
Before using Rentalbuddy, the team needed to prepare the sauna and firewood manually before each visit. Now, bookings, payments and a code for the Igloohome key box on the woodshed run automatically through Rentalbuddy’s booking system, giving both the owners and guests more flexibility.
“Thanks to Rentalbuddy, customers can now pick exactly the amount of firewood they want for their sauna session — directly from our woodshed equipped with Rentalbuddy’s lock,” says Alvin Berggren from Grebo Bastubåt.
Grebo Bastubåt owners Alvin Berggren and Joaquim de Oliveira Pegado, builders behind the self-service sauna.
“Before, we had to guess how much wood each guest would use and load it in advance, which limited how many could book and when. Now customers can manage everything themselves - from viewing schedules to booking times - without needing to contact us. It’s given freedom to both them and us.”
Clear and simple access for guests
After booking, each customer receives an automatic confirmation with self-service instructions:
“Dial your received code to get the keys in the electronic lock. The electronic lock is placed beside the parking lot on the woodshed - not on the sauna. The keys are for both getting access to the woodshed to collect the firewood you need and also for the sauna itself. A lumber cart is available to use, but it should be returned after use. Please lock all doors and put the keys back in the electronic lock to avoid extra fees.”

This setup ensures that guests can handle their entire sauna visit independently - from collecting wood to locking up — while the owners maintain full control through Rentalbuddy’s admin interface.
Freedom for both owner and customer
Grebo Bastubåt is now fully self-service, open year-round, and operates without staff on-site. With Rentalbuddy, all bookings, payments, and access codes are automated, allowing the team to focus on maintenance and experience instead of administration.
Igloohome, the lock maker, reports in its case study on Grebo Bastubåt and Bastuflotten Mariestad that letting guests fetch firewood with their own code saves Grebo Bastubåt about 3 hours of manual work a week. A three-hour session costs 800 SEK, firewood included.

This simple digital setup has created a smoother, more flexible business - and a reliable example of how self-service sauna rentals can work in practice.
