Igloohome Padlock 2 and Keybox 3

Digital locks

Digital locks for self-service rental

Rentalbuddy works with Igloohome's smart padlocks and key boxes – usually the Padlock 2 or the Keybox 3. You buy the locks once and pair them in the Igloohome app. From then on, Rentalbuddy creates a new PIN code for every booking that only opens the lock around the booked time. About €160 per lock, bought once, plus Igloohome's code fee of about 20 SEK (US$2) per lock a month.

The locks need no internet, Wi-Fi or power, so they work on a jetty, a beach or a ski slope. Renters see their code on their unlock page 15 minutes before the start.

Igloohome Padlock 2 – for trailers, kayaks, skis and boats

Hang one on each item: through a kayak or canoe with a steel cable around the rack, in a ski rack, on a rowing boat's chain or a court gate, through a trailer's hitch lock or a bike frame.

Paddles, life jackets or firewood can share one more padlock on a shed or box, and every booking gets its own code for that one too. Igloohome rates the Padlock 2 waterproof (IPX7) and for −20 °C to 50 °C, with a rechargeable battery that lasts up to about 9 months per charge.

Igloohome Keybox 3 – for the keys to saunas, boats and rooms

Put the key inside: a motorboat's key, an e-bike key, or the key to the sauna, club house or meeting room. The renter's code opens the box, they take the key, and they lock it back in when they leave.

Ask renters for a photo of the key back in the box when they confirm their return, so you know it's there before the next booking. Igloohome rates the Keybox 3 IP66 against dust and rain; it runs on four AAA batteries for up to 12 months.

At the lock: four steps for the renter

Renters open their unlock page with the button in their confirmation email; their code appears there 15 minutes before the start. Then, at a Padlock 2:

  1. Press any button to wake the lock.
  2. Type the code.
  3. Press the lock symbol at the bottom right.
  4. Close the lock again when you bring the gear back.

Put the same four steps on a sign by the rack, next to the QR code for booking – like the one in the photo – and in the message on the renter's unlock page.

Codes renters can rely on

  • “One of the biggest challenges during the first year was that I used a newly introduced booking system that didn't work. Every booking required manually generated codes, and I often had to go down to help customers unlock the equipment when the codes didn't work. […] My current booking system, Rentalbuddy, makes the rental run very smoothly and without problems. I haven't had any issues with codes acting up.”

FAQ

Questions about the locks

Which booking systems work with Igloohome locks?

Igloohome locks get their codes from partner software through Igloo Connect, Igloohome's service for booking systems – and for rentals of gear, saunas, boats, trailers and courts, Igloohome lists Rentalbuddy among them. You'll find Rentalbuddy as an integration in Igloohome's Igloo Connect marketplace and on its pages for trailer hire, SUP and kayak rental and sports courts.

With Rentalbuddy, every booking gets a new code, also for a shared box or shed door. The codes are Igloohome's offline algoPIN codes, worked out for the booking's time, so the lock needs no internet. The code shows on the renter's unlock page 15 minutes before the start and follows the booking if you move it; if a code can't be made, Rentalbuddy tells you in the admin and by email. How to connect your locks

Which locks work with Rentalbuddy?

Igloohome smart locks – usually the Padlock 2 for gear and the Keybox 3 for keys. Every lock on Igloohome's Igloo Connect list of supported locks works, including the Padlock 2E and Keybox 3E. The Padlock Lite isn't on that list and doesn't work.

Other smart-lock brands aren't integrated. The one exception is Allockate's connected locker banks, which need power and a mobile connection – ask us before you buy. Padlocks or key boxes with a fixed code can be added as manual locks, but then every renter gets the same code.

How many locks do I need?

One for every item renters book on its own, plus one for each shared door or box. Hang a Padlock 2 on each kayak, canoe or trailer, or put each boat's or sauna's key in its own Keybox 3. Gear that's booked together – paddles and life jackets, or 4 SUPs in one box – can share one lock on a shed or box door, and every booking still gets its own code for it. On your Rentalbuddy plan, every item customers can book counts as one lock, and so does every shared door: 4 SUPs in a box with one lock on its door count as 5, though you buy only one lock. Starter covers up to 6, Growth 8 and then 120 SEK a month per extra lock. Which plan fits

How does the Igloohome integration work, and how do I connect the locks?

Pair each lock in the Igloohome app, add a card in Igloo Connect, then connect Igloohome in Rentalbuddy and sync. Use one Igloohome account for all your locks. Igloo Connect is Igloohome's service for partner apps such as Rentalbuddy, and it won't hand out codes without a payment method. In the admin you connect under Settings → Integrations and press Sync Igloohome locks; Rentalbuddy tries a test code for every lock it adds and tells you if one can't create codes yet. Without a payment method in Igloo Connect, codes can't be made – Rentalbuddy then keeps trying and warns you in the admin and by email.

What do the locks cost, and where do I buy them?

About €160 per lock, bought once: Igloohome's EU shop lists €159.99 for the Padlock 2 and €159 for the Keybox 3 (October 2026). Buy them from Igloohome or a reseller; resellers set their own prices.

On top, Igloohome charges about US$2 (about 20 SEK) per lock a month for Igloo Connect, the service that creates the codes. Rentalbuddy doesn't sell locks, but we work with lock resellers and can help you put a setup together. The locks stay on your own Igloohome account.

Do the locks need internet, Wi-Fi or power?

No. They run on batteries and check each code themselves. When you pair a lock in the Igloohome app, the lock and Igloohome's service share a secret key. Each booking's code is worked out from that key and the booking's start and end, so the lock can tell on its own that the code is genuine and when it's valid – much like the codes from a bank's security token. Only the renter's phone needs a signal, to open their unlock page.

How long do the batteries last, and do the locks work in winter?

Padlock 2: rechargeable, up to about 9 months per charge, rated −20 °C to 50 °C. Keybox 3: four AAA batteries for up to 12 months, but Igloohome rates those batteries only down to −10 °C. A flat lock can be powered for a moment from a power bank through its USB-C port.

Rentalbuddy can't see battery levels remotely, so charge the padlocks and change the key boxes' batteries before the season and regularly during it. For a key box by a winter sauna, choose a sheltered spot and fit fresh alkaline batteries before the cold sets in. More on frost and batteries

What does the renter see, and when does the code work?

Their own PIN code, on the unlock page that the button in their confirmation email opens. The code appears 15 minutes before the start. Igloohome codes run in whole hours, so a code works from up to an hour before the booking starts until up to an hour after it ends – then it stops for good, so past renters can't come back another day. Leave an hour between bookings of the same item, so the last renter can't reopen the lock during the next rental.

If you ask for it, renters first accept your terms, upload a photo of their ID or watch your safety video. After several wrong codes in a row, the keypad stops accepting codes for a while, so nobody can stand there guessing. What if a renter can't open the lock?

If you can lock it, you can rent it out

Saunas, trailers, boats and gear shouldn't stand idle between weekends. Rent them out as your own business, offer them to the guests at your campsite or hotel, or lend them to members and residents – with nobody on site.
