Rentalbuddy is a booking system for self-service rental. Renters book and pay online and get their own code for a digital lock, so saunas, trailers, kayaks, boats and other gear can be rented out with nobody on site.

Rentalbuddy AB is a small team in Malmö, Sweden, started in 2018 by friends who love tech and the outdoors. The booking system was first called Gokaya; today more than 100 paying rental businesses run on Rentalbuddy. When you call or email us, you talk to the people who build it.

    A booking system in the browser – no app for you or your renters. Every booking gets a new code for an Igloohome smart lock, and payments go through Stripe straight into your own account. Booking and the admin in 12 languages.

    Sauna, trailer, kayak, SUP, boat and ski rentals, campsites, clubs, stores and a municipality – in Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Germany and the UK, and in the US and Canada. Our first customer, Immeln Canoe Center, has rented out canoes with Rentalbuddy since 2021.

Igloohome also lists Rentalbuddy as an integration for trailer hire, SUP and kayak rental and sports courts. Stripe for payments, Harvia for sauna heater control (beta), and sauna builders such as Bastuspa in Södertälje, which sells saunas ready to rent out with Rentalbuddy
  • Reliability: each booking's code is made ahead of time and checked by the lock itself, with no internet, so codes already made keep working even if the mobile network or Rentalbuddy is down. The booking system runs on Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services; payments go straight into your own Stripe account (Stripe is certified PCI Service Provider Level 1), so Rentalbuddy never holds your money
  • Where it works: in use in Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, the US and Canada – wherever Stripe accepts businesses from your country, in your own currency

Who makes Rentalbuddy?

Rentalbuddy AB, a Swedish company founded in 2018, with its office in Malmö (org. no. 559168-6836). A small team builds the booking system, and the same people answer when you call or email: +46 10 516 46 26 or info@rentalbuddy.io, 8:00–17:00 CET/CEST, in English or Swedish. Jesper runs the demos.

Is Rentalbuddy the same as Gokaya?

Yes. The booking system was called Gokaya before it became Rentalbuddy – same company, same product – and some older pages and listings still use the old name. Rentalbuddy is not the Rental Buddy app in the Wix App Market, or other companies with a similar name.

Is Rentalbuddy reliable?

More than 100 paying rental businesses run on it, and our first customer, Immeln Canoe Center, has run on it since 2021. Each booking's code is made ahead of time and checked by the lock itself, with no internet, so codes already made keep working even if the mobile network or Rentalbuddy is down. Payments go straight into your own Stripe account, so we never hold your money, and there's no minimum term: you can leave whenever you like. Make a test booking yourself
